202 Stainless Steel Sheet Price

202 stainless steel sheet price is the budget end of the SS range. SS 202 is a chromium-manganese grade that uses about 4 per cent nickel instead of the 8 per cent found in SS 304. This cuts roughly 30 per cent off the per-kg price, which makes it the default choice for indoor decorative fabrication where heavy corrosion or chloride exposure is not a concern.

SS 310 Sheet Price Per Kg

At the premium end, SS 310 sheet price per kg reflects its high 25% chromium and 20% nickel content. While expensive, this nearly triple-nickel composition allows the grade to maintain strength and resist oxidation at extreme temperatures up to 1,150°C, unmatched by standard stainless options.

SS 310 vs SS 310S: SS 310S is the low-carbon variant (0.08% max carbon vs 0.25% for SS 310), preferred for welded fabrications to avoid chromium carbide precipitation at the weld line. Both grades share the same per-kg price band and are interchangeable on this chart for most applications.

Stainless Steel 316 Sheet Price

Stainless steel 316 sheet pricing is 30–40% higher than SS 304 because it includes 2–3% molybdenum, which makes austenitic stainless pitting- and crevice-corrosion-resistant for marine, chemical, and chloride service. SS 316 is required for salt spray, chlorinated water, chemical reagents, and pharmaceutical-grade cleanroom manufacture.

Reasons Behind Changes In Stainless Steel Sheet Prices?

Stainless steel sheet costs fluctuate rapidly due to LME nickel and chromium volatility. A 5% market shift can change prices by ₹10 to ₹20 per kg; please refer to the following five factors for details.

  1. LME nickel daily close
Nickel is the main austenitic grade cost driver (304, 316, 310). SS 304 sheet prices track LME nickel by 3–5%. With 20% nickel content, SS 310 is significantly more sensitive, as a 5% nickel change moves SS 310 by 4%.
  2. LME chromium and molybdenum
Chromium costs approximately ₹200 per kg and provides corrosion resistance. Molybdenum, found in SS 316, 316L, and 904L, at ₹2,500 to ₹3,500 per kilogram, is the primary reason SS 316 sheet prices exceed SS 304.
  3. INR–USD exchange rate
LME prices are quoted in USD. The landed cost of imported nickel, ferrochrome and molybdenum, which form a direct part of the SS sheet cost, increases with a weaker rupee.
  4. Thickness, size, and finish
Cold-rolling to tight tolerances costs more per kg; thinner sheets (below 1 mm) cost more. Polished finishes (No.4, BA, 8K) cost ₹30-70 per kg more than 2B. Handling and cutting can result in a modest size premium for large-format sheets (> 1500 × 3000 mm).
  5. Quantity and payment terms
Bulk orders above 1 tonne typically attract a 3 to 8 per cent discount over spot. Advance-payment or letter-of-credit terms can shave another 1 to 2 per cent. Ask for the bracketed rate when raising a PO.

Stainless Steel Sheet Finishes Explained

Surface finish significantly impacts stainless steel sheet prices. Choosing correctly prevents aesthetic issues or overspending. Please refer to the table below detailing the four standard finishes covering 95% of demand.

Finish Description Premium over 2B Typical use
2B Mill-standard cold-rolled, lightly reflective, uniform matt finish — (baseline) Industrial, food-grade, structural, general fabrication
No.4 Brushed directional grain, semi-matt, hides scratches well + ₹30–50/kg Kitchen equipment, architectural, and commercial interiors
BA Bright annealed, highly reflective without full mirror polish + ₹40–60/kg Elevator panels, high-end architectural, decorative
8K Mirror polish (mechanically buffed to near-reflective) + ₹50–70/kg Showpiece cladding, luxury retail, premium decorative

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the price of 304 stainless steel sheet per kg in India? +
The 304 stainless steel sheet price per kg is ₹220–₹280 for 2B finish, while Jindal brand averages ₹280–₹320. Rates are LME-linked and fluctuate daily based on global nickel and chromium market shifts.
What is the price of SS 202 stainless steel sheet per kg? +
SS 202 sheet price is ₹150 to ₹200 per kg — roughly 25 to 30 per cent lower than SS 304. The savings come from a lower nickel content (4 percent against 8% in SS 304). SS 202 is meant for interior dry ornamental applications only. Not approved for food contact, outdoor use, or chloride exposure.
What is the difference between SS 304, SS 316, and SS 202 sheet price? +
Pricing follows the chemistry: entry-level SS 202 (₹150+) saves money, while SS 304 (₹220+) is our reliable standard. Premium SS 316 (₹295+) adds molybdenum for that critical marine-grade shield against heavy salt and corrosion.
What is the SS 310 sheet price per kg? +
SS 310 sheet price per kg ranges from ₹445 to ₹580. This premium covers 25% chromium and 20% nickel, enabling the alloy to withstand extreme service temperatures reaching up to 1,150 °C in furnaces.
How much does a 4×8 stainless steel sheet cost? +
A 1mm 4x8 SS 304 sheet (23.8 kg) costs ₹5,474–₹6,426. The 2mm version (47.7 kg) costs ₹10,256–₹12,164. Expect a 30% premium for SS 316 grades in these same standard dimensional formats.
What is the Jindal stainless steel sheet price? +
Jindal stainless steel sheet costs 8–15% more than Indian equivalents. Expect ₹280-₹320 per kg for Jindal-brand SS 304, ₹340-₹400 per kg for SS 316, and ₹185-₹230 per kg for SS 202. Premium covers proven mill traceability, consistent finish quality, and BIS IS-mark compliance for government and big private tenders.
What is the Jindal SS 304 sheet price? +
Jindal SS 304 sheet price for the standard 1.0 mm 2B finish is ₹280 to ₹320 per kg. Thinner sheets (0.5, 0.8 mm) carry a small premium; thicker sheets (2, 3 mm) are slightly cheaper per kg. Polished finishes — No. 4, BA, 8K mirror — add ₹30 to ₹70 per kg over the 2B base. See Section 07 for the full thickness-and-finish matrix.
Why does stainless steel sheet cost so much more than mild steel? +
Stainless requires 10.5% chromium and 8% nickel. Nickel alone trades at ₹1,500–₹2,000 per kg, accounting for over half the raw-material cost gap. Processing the 2B finish adds another 10–15% to costs.
Which finish should I choose — 2B, No.4, BA, or 8K mirror? +
Use 2B for industrial/food-grade needs. No.4 brushed suits architecture, while BA and 8K mirror are for high-end decor. Choosing correctly prevents over-specifying on polish for surfaces where aesthetics aren't a priority.
What is the minimum order quantity for SS sheets? +
One full sheet is the minimum order at our Mumbai warehouse. For cut-to-size orders, 100 kg is required (around 2 to 4 full sheets, depending on thickness). Ask the sales desk for the bracketed pricing for bulk orders above 1 tonne to get a 3–8% reduction on the spot stockist rate.
Do you supply Mill Test Certificate with SS sheets? +
Yes. Every consignment includes an original EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate. This document verifies chemical composition, mechanical properties, and heat numbers traceable to Jindal or equivalent high-quality manufacturing mills.
