Heavy Wall Carbon Steel Pipe Price
In India, the price of carbon steel pipe begins at ₹75 per kg. Globally, the cost fluctuates often, generally falling between $0.60 and $1.20 per kg, with regional and order size variations influencing the final figure. Pricing depends on specification, grade, OD, wall thickness and quantity.
ASTM A106 / ASME SA-106 Grades
This standard covers seamless carbon steel pipes for high temperatures in three grades. Grade A is for lower-pressure use. Grade B is the common choice for refineries and boilers. Grade C is stronger but needs tighter weld control.
Grade A
Grade A has low carbon and strength. It bends and coils easily for low-pressure systems.
Grade B
Grade B is commonly used in refineries and power plants. It provides good strength and is easy to weld.
Grade C
Grade C provides the highest tensile and yield strength of the three. It handles higher pressures well but is harder to weld and form because of the increased carbon content.
Types of Heavy-Wall Carbon Steel Pipes
Heavy-wall carbon steel pipes are available in the 3 primary types:

Seamless Heavy Wall Carbon Steel Pipe

ERW Heavy Wall Carbon Steel Pipe

DSAW Heavy Wall Carbon Steel Pipe
Heavy Wall Carbon Steel Pipe Industrial Applications
Heavy-wall carbon steel pipes are used in demanding industries where high pressure, extreme heat, or structural weight are factors. The following sections describe how these pipes function in specific sectors.
Oil and Gas Pipelines
Carries crude oil, natural gas, and refined products through high-pressure, long-distance transmission lines across varied terrain.
Power Generation and Boiler Systems
Conveys high-temperature steam above 400 °C in power plant boiler circuits, maintaining pressure integrity under sustained thermal cycling.
Chemical and Petrochemical Processing
Routes aggressive hydrocarbon streams and reactive chemicals through refinery process piping at elevated pressures requiring maximum wall thickness.
Structural and Construction
Thick-wall carbon steel pipe supports columns, piers, and foundation piles where load-bearing capacity drives design in construction for reliable structures.
Heavy Wall vs Standard Wall Carbon Steel Pipe
This table compares the main differences between standard wall and heavy wall carbon steel pipes.
| Feature | Standard Wall Pipe | Heavy Wall Pipe |
|---|---|---|
| Typical Schedules | Schedule 40, STD (Standard) | Schedule 80, 160, XXS (Double Extra Strong) |
| Wall Thickness | Thinner; designed for lower pressure | Thicker; built for high-pressure/stress |
| Common Standards | ASTM A53, ASTM A106 Grade B | ASTM A106 and API 5L |
| Manufacturing | Welded (ERW) or Seamless | Primarily Seamless |
| Connection Method | Threaded, Grooved, or Welded | Mainly Butt-welded (Bevelled ends) |
| Primary Use | Water lines, HVAC, low-pressure steam | Refineries, high-pressure gas, chemical plants |
| Durability | Standard corrosion allowance | Higher allowance for wear and high heat |
