Seamless Tube Size Chart (OD and Wall Thickness)

OD and wall thickness ranges by material are listed below.

Material OD Range Wall Thickness Gauges Length
Stainless Steel 1/16" to 16" (1.587 to 406.4 mm) 0.010" to 2" BWG 7 to BWG 26 4 to 12 m
Carbon & Alloy Steel 1/2" to 24" (12.7 to 609.6 mm) SCH 5 to SCH XXS Schedule-based Up to 12 m

Seamless Tube Weight Calculator

The weight formula is Weight (kg/m) = (OD − WT) × WT × 0.02466 (OD/WT in mm). A 25.4 mm OD tube with 2.77 mm wall weighs 1.55 kg/m.

Seamless Tube Price

Market rates for seamless tubes currently range from ₹75 to ₹250 per kg in India and $1.10 to $3.50 in the USA. Precise material grades and order volumes remain the key factors for final pricing.

Seamless Tube Grades

For a detailed breakdown of the standard material grades and their specific properties, please check the table below.

SS 304 / 304L Seamless Tube

Grade 304 is the standard austenitic choice for general corrosion resistance. The 304L variant uses lower carbon to prevent intergranular corrosion during welding operations.

SS 316 / 316L Seamless Tube

The addition of molybdenum provides these tubes with superior resistance to chlorides and pitting, making them essential for marine environments and aggressive chemical processing.

SS 310 / 310S Seamless Tube

Suitable for high-temperature service up to ~1100°C (continuous), depending on environment. It is the preferred material for furnace components and thermal treatment systems.

SS 321 / 321H Seamless Tube

Titanium stabilisation allows these tubes to operate in the carbide precipitation range of 425°C to 860°C without losing their structural integrity or corrosion resistance.

SS 347 Seamless Tube

Niobium-stabilised 347 boosts creep strength and intergranular corrosion resistance. It delivers the dependability required for demanding high-pressure steam and elevated-temperature chemical applications.

Carbon Steel Seamless Tube (ASTM A106 / A53)

ASTM A106 Grade B is designed for high-temperature refinery pipes, whereas ASTM A53 Type S offers a versatile option for general structural applications.

Alloy Steel Seamless Tube (ASTM A335)

ASTM A335 "P-Grades" are critical for steam generation and power plants, offering the necessary creep-rupture strength for high-pressure, high-temperature boiler service.

Seamless Tube Types

Seamless tubes come in 3 types.

Cold Drawn Seamless Tube

Cold Drawn Seamless Tube (CDS)

Hot Rolled Seamless Tube

Hot Rolled / Hot Finished Seamless Tube (HRS)

Extruded Seamless Tube

Extruded Seamless Tube

Seamless Tube Industrial Applications

Seamless tubes serve 4 key sectors where pressure integrity and corrosion resistance are critical.

Oil & Gas Industry

SS seamless tube grades 316 and 316L are standard offshore. Carbon steel seamless tubing under ASTM A106 serves onshore transmission lines.

Heat Exchangers & Boilers

ASTM A213 / ASME SA-213 governs seamless heat exchanger tubes and seamless boiler tubes. ASTM A335 grades (e.g., P11, P22) are used in high-temperature and high-pressure service where creep resistance is required.

Hydraulic Systems

Seamless hydraulic tubes need tight tolerances and high burst pressure ratings. CDS tubes per EN 10305 and ASTM A519 are preferred in 6 mm to 50 mm OD.

Mechanical & Structural Engineering

Seamless mechanical tubing per ASTM A519 serves automotive axles and cylinder barrels.

Seamless Tube FAQ

What is a seamless tube?+
A seamless tube is manufactured from a solid billet without any welded seam by hot extrusion, rotary piercing, or cold drawing. The seamless tube manufacturing process produces uniform strength and higher pressure ratings.
What is the difference between a seamless and a welded tube?+
Seamless tubes have no weld seam, higher pressure ratings, and more uniform wall thickness. Welded tubes cost less but don't match seamless tubes under high pressure.
What are the different types of seamless tubes?+
The 3 main types are cold-drawn seamless (CDS), hot-rolled seamless (HRS), and extruded seamless.
Which is cheaper, a seamless or a welded tube?+
Welded tubes are more affordable due to simpler manufacturing. Seamless tubes cost more but offer higher pressure integrity.
What sizes are available for seamless tubes?+
Seamless SS tubes are available from 1/16" to 24" OD with wall thicknesses from 0.010" to 2" in lengths up to 12 metres.
Who are the leading seamless tube manufacturers in India?+
Sachiya Steel International is among the leading seamless tube manufacturers in India with full ASTM/ASME certification and 1,500+ MT inventory.
How is the weight of a seamless tube calculated?+
The formula is Weight (kg/m) = (OD − WT) × WT × 0.02466 (OD/WT in mm). A 25.4 mm OD tube with a 2.77 mm wall weighs 1.55 kg/m.
