IS 2062 E350 Sub-Grades

IS 2062 E350 is available in four sub-grades, each sharing the same strength class but differing in impact testing, steel deoxidation practice, and intended service temperature.

E350A

E350A is the base sub-grade with no Charpy impact test mandate. It accepts rimming, semi-killed, or killed steel. General structural fabrication, where impact toughness isn’t a design criterion, typically specifies E350A.

E350B

E350B requires a Charpy V-notch impact test of minimum 27 J at 25 °C. Semi-killed or killed steel is acceptable. Bridges, crane girders, and structural members subject to dynamic loads commonly use this sub-grade.

E350BR

E350BR carries the same impact requirement as E350B (minimum 27 J at 25 °C), but it mandates killed steel only. Killed steel has better internal soundness. Pressure vessel support structures and critical structural connections often require E350BR.

E350C

E350C is the most stringent sub-grade, requiring minimum 27 J at 0 °C with killed steel only. It suits structures exposed to low-temperature environments or outdoor infrastructure in cold regions. The European equivalent is S355J0.

IS 2062 E350 Sheet & Plate Industrial Applications

IS 2062 E350 sheet and plate are used across structural, industrial, and infrastructure sectors where good yield strength and good weldability are required.

Structural & Construction Applications

IS 2062 E350 plate is a standard material for high-rise building frames, industrial sheds, and steel bridge components.

Industrial & Heavy Equipment Applications

This grade is used for crane booms, excavator chassis plates and conveyor structures. Fabricators also select it for storage tanks and process plant support steelwork.

Infrastructure & Transportation Applications

Railway rolling stock, transmission tower leg members and port crane structures rely on E350 grade plate. E350BR or E350C is often specified for outdoor infrastructure when the temperature drops below 10 °C.
