Titanium Grade 5 plates are Ti-6Al-4V alloy sheets with high strength, low weight, and good corrosion resistance for engineering uses. These ASTM B265 / ASME SB-265 Grade 5 plates contain 5.5–6.75% aluminium and 3.5–4.5% vanadium, making them about three times stronger than commercially pure titanium. With a tensile strength of at least 895 MPa (130 ksi) and a low density of 4.43 g/cm³, Ti-6Al-4V plates have one of the best strength-to-weight ratios of any structural metal.

Which is better for Plates, Titanium Grade 2 or Grade 5? +

Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) plates offer nearly three times the tensile strength of Grade 2 plates (895 MPa versus 345 MPa). Grade 5 isn't cold formable, though. Select Grade 5 for high-strength structural applications and Grade 2 where cold forming and lower cost are priorities.

What are the disadvantages of Titanium Grade 5 Plates? +

Titanium Gr.5 Plates are not cold formable and require hot forming at 870 to 980 degrees C for bends in thicker sections. The alloy also has a tendency to gall in wear applications and costs more than commercially pure grades.
