IS 2062 E250 Price Per Kg
IS 2062 E250 mild steel plate price ranges from approximately Rs 45 to Rs 55 per kg in India, or $0.50 and $1.00 per kg. Pricing depends on thickness, sub-grade, order quantity, and current steel market conditions. Thinner plates (below 6 mm) and small lot sizes cost more. Contact us for a current quotation.
IS 2062 E250 Chemical Composition
The table below shows the element limits per IS 2062 for the E250A sub-grade. IS 2062 E250 is a low-carbon structural steel with controlled alloying to support weldability and forming.
IS 2062 E250 Mechanical Properties
IS 2062 E250 provides the load-bearing performance required for structural plate and sheet applications. Yield strength varies by thickness band, as shown below.
| Property | Below 20 mm | 20 to 40 mm | Above 40 mm | Unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yield Strength (min) | 250 | 240 | 230 | MPa |
| Tensile Strength | 410 | 410 | 410 | MPa |
| Elongation (min) | 23 | 23 | 23 | % |
IS 2062 E250 Equivalent Material
IS 2062 E250 corresponds to several international structural steel standards. The table below covers the primary equivalents for cross-standard procurement.
| Standard | Designation |
|---|---|
| IS 2062:2011 | E250 (Fe 410WA) |
| JIS G3101 | SS400 |
| GB/T 700 | Q235B |
| DIN 17100 (superseded) | St 44-2 |
For US-standard projects, compare with ASTM A36 Plate for the equivalent specification.
IS 2062 E250 Sub-Grades
IS 2062 E250 is available in 4 sub-grades: E250A, E250B, E250BR, and E250C. The primary differences are in the deoxidation method and impact testing requirements.
E250A (Fe 410WA)
E250A is the most common sub-grade, produced as killed or semi-killed steel with no mandatory impact test. This grade is specified for building frames, transmission towers, and column sections. It is the most economical option in the E250 range.
E250B (Fe 410WB)
This sub-grade uses fully killed steel with improved impact properties over E250A. Buyers may request impact testing at the time of ordering. E250B serves moderate-responsibility structural projects.
E250BR
E250BR is fully killed steel with a mandatory Charpy impact test at room temperature (27 J minimum). Bridge fabrication, heavy equipment structures, and critical steelwork where verified toughness is required at ambient conditions commonly need this sub-grade.
E250C (Fe 410WC)
The most stringent sub-grade, E250C, requires impact testing at 0 degrees C with a 27 J minimum. Cold-region infrastructure and low-temperature structural applications specify E250C when operating conditions drop below ambient.
IS 2062 E250 Sheet & Plate Industrial Applications
IS 2062 E250 mild steel sheet and plate serve a broad range of structural and fabrication applications. Three major sectors account for most of the demand: construction and infrastructure, automobile and transportation, and industrial equipment fabrication.
Construction & Infrastructure
E250 steel plate is used for building columns, beams, base plates, and gusset connections in multi-storey structures. Bridges, flyovers, and transmission tower base sections use this for its weldability and load-bearing capacity.
Automobile & Transportation
Chassis frames, trailer bodies, and rail coach structural components use IS 2062 E250 plate in thicknesses from 5 mm to 20 mm. The low carbon content supports press forming and bending without cracking during fabrication.
Industrial Equipment & Fabrication
E250 MS plates are used to fabricate tanks, hoppers, conveyor frames, and general machine bases. Its combination of 410 MPa tensile strength, good weldability, and cost efficiency makes it practical for high-volume fabrication work.
IS 2062 E250 vs IS 2062 E350
The table below provides an IS 2062 E250 vs IS 2062 E350 comparison depending on strength, load conditions, and structural efficiency requirements.
| Parameter | IS 2062 E250 | IS 2062 E350 |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum Yield Strength | 250 MPa | 350 MPa |
| Minimum Tensile Strength | 410 MPa | 490 MPa |
| Strength Level | Standard structural grade | High-strength structural grade |
| Load Capacity | Suitable for moderate loads | Suitable for high-load applications |
| Section Thickness Requirement | Thicker sections required | Thinner sections possible due to higher strength |
| Weight Optimization | Limited | Better weight reduction potential |
| Typical Applications | General fabrication, buildings, frames | Bridges, heavy structures, crane girders |
| Design Efficiency | Standard | Higher efficiency in load-bearing structures |
| Cost Consideration | Lower material cost | Higher initial cost but potential savings in weight |
| Selection Criteria | Used where loads are moderate | Preferred where the strength-to-weight ratio is critical |
