Boiler quality plates are carbon steel flat products used to make boiler drums, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers that work at high pressure and temperature. These plates follow standards such as ASTM A516 and A515, ASME SA-516 and SA-515, ASTM A537, IS 2002, IS 2041, EN 10028, JIS G3103, and GB 713. Their main alloying elements are carbon, manganese and silicon. Carbon is limited to about 0.27%; manganese ranges from 0.85 to 1.20%; and silicon from 0.15 to 0.40%, while phosphorus and sulphur are kept below 0.025%.

ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel plates have a tensile strength of 485 to 620 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 260 MPa. These pressure vessel quality (PVQ) plates meet the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, so they are suitable for boilers and pressure vessels. Plate thickness usually ranges from 6 mm to 150 mm, widths from 1000 mm to 3500 mm and lengths up to 14000 mm.
