IS 2062 Pipes Grades

IS 2062 covers 3 primary grades for structural pipe applications. Each grade offers progressively higher yield strength:

IS 2062 E250 (Fe 410W)

The most prevalent grade is IS 2062 E250, formerly Fe 410W. Minimum yield strength is 250 MPa (for thickness up to 20 mm), 410 MPa tensile strength, and 23% elongation. The closest international counterpart is ASTM A36. IS 2062 E250 Pipe is used mostly in scaffolding, building frames and water pipelines. The earlier designation scheme for IS 2062 Grade B Pipes is often used.

IS 2062 E350 (Fe 490)

Fe 490 delivers 40% more yield strength than E250. With a minimum elongation of 22%, tensile strength is 490 MPa, and yield is 350 MPa for a thickness up to 20 mm. The nearest equivalent is ASTM A572 Grade 50. IS 2062 E350 Pipe is used in bridges, gearbox towers, cranes and large structural fabrication where normal steel won't load.

IS 2062 E410 (Fe 540)

Fe 540 is the highest tensile grade in the IS 2062 specification. Yield strength reaches 410 MPa (for thickness up to 20 mm), with tensile strength at 540 MPa and minimum elongation of 20%. IS 2062 E410 Pipe is needed for heavy engineering projects, crane girders, and structural parts that are under a lot of stress. E410 has the extra capacity that E350 lacks for important installations.

IS 2062 Pipes Industrial Applications

IS 2062 structural pipes provide the high-tensile strength and ductility required for heavy-duty industrial environments. We supply these pipes to the following sectors:

Construction & Structural Engineering

Used in building frames, scaffolding, and roof trusses. E410 grades provide the high yield strength necessary for supporting multi-storey and industrial structures.

Oil & Gas Pipelines

Structural supports, pipe racks, platforms. Seamless variants handle medium-pressure fluids while resisting mechanical stress in harsh conditions.

Water Supply & Distribution

Essential for municipal mains, irrigation systems, and sewage lines. ERW production offers a cost-effective solution for large-diameter pipes over long-distance transmission.

General Engineering & Fabrication

Used in conveyor systems, machine frames, and storage racks. Consistent weldability allows fabricators to create complex, load-bearing frames without risking structural integrity.

IS 2062 Pipes FAQ

What is the IS 2062 pipe material?+
IS 2062 is a BIS specification for hot-rolled medium and high tensile structural steel. IS 2062 pipes are manufactured from this carbon steel in E250, E350, and E410 variants, offering yield strengths from 250 MPa to 410 MPa. The standard covers the material's chemical and mechanical requirements, not the pipe manufacturing process itself.
What is equivalent to IS 2062 pipe material?+
IS 2062 E250 is equivalent to ASTM A36 (UNS K02600), EN 10025 S275JR (Europe), JIS G3101 SS400 (Japan), and GB/T 700 Q235B (China). IS 2062 E350 maps to ASTM A572 Grade 50 and EN 10025 S355JR.
What sizes are IS 2062 pipes available in?+
IS 2062 pipes are available from 1/2" NB to 36" NB in seamless and ERW forms. Wall thickness ranges from SCH 10 to SCH XXS. Standard lengths are 6 metres, with custom cut-to-length options on request.
What is the price of IS 2062 pipes per kg?+
IS 2062 pipes are priced from approximately Rs. 45 to Rs. 140 per kg, depending on grade, OD, wall thickness, form, and quantity. Contact us for a current quote with the best available rates.
Can IS 2062 pipes be used instead of API 5L Pipes?+
IS 2062 E250 is a structural steel specification and is not directly interchangeable with API 5L, which is designed for line pipe in oil and gas service with stricter testing requirements (hydrostatic testing, impact testing at low temperatures). Consult your project engineer before substituting. An IS 2062 Pipes dealer can help clarify the right specification for your application.
What is the difference between IS 2062 and IS 1239 pipes?+
IS 2062 is a material specification for hot-rolled structural steel. IS 1239 is a product specification for mild steel tubes and tubulars. IS 1239 pipes may be manufactured from IS 2062 grade steel, but the two standards cover different scopes: one defines the steel, the other defines the finished tube product.
Which IS 2062 grade is best for structural construction?+
IS 2062 E250 is the most widely used grade for general structural construction. For bridges, towers, and heavy-load applications requiring higher yield strength, E350 or E410 grades are recommended. IS 2062 Gr B Pipe (the older designation for E250) remains the default choice for routine building work.
Are IS 2062 pipes available in seamless and ERW forms?+
Yes. We supply IS 2062 pipes in both seamless and ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) forms. Seamless pipes suit high-pressure applications, while ERW pipes offer a cost-effective option for structural and general use.
